The gift that keeps on giving!

This session was a present to Mom!  As we near the holidays this is something you might consider for your own mother or grandmother.  It is truly the gift that keeps on giving.

Not only do you spend a morning together enjoying each others company and making mom/grandma oh so very happy, but you are creating new memories.  At the end of this special experience, you will take these moments with you forever, both figuratively and literally.

Check out a couple of my favorites from a recent "gift."

Sunset!

You will here me say time and time again!  Opt for the golden hour session.  It can be difficult with bed times, I understand, but if you can swing it... its well worth it!  Check out these beauties.

Late Summer Blooms

Spring and fall are often coveted times of the year to take your family photos, but do not overlook the august early September bloomers!  The purples, yellows and whites are abundant and make for stunning photos.

Momma to-be

This beautiful momma to be, is just glowing!  Growing another human can be downright difficult, painful and tiring... its nice to take a moment to appreciate how beautiful a mother to be is.  Bringing another human into this world is, in my opinion, one of the most amazing things a person can do.

Stars perfectly aligned!

Sometimes everything just lines up... from outfits, to children's moods, lighting, etc.  This is one of those instances where it all just worked.  I think that all sessions can be like this, it takes a little preparation, and a laid back, go with the flow attitude when the day of the shoot arrives.

Preparation

There is something to be said for the person who prepares... I can't emphasize this enough.   It is important to think about your photos prior to the shoot... coordinate the outfit, discuss it with me, so on the day of, we already have a sense for what the mood is.

We all get busy and sometimes its hard to prepare beforehand, but if you are investing in a session, I recommend investing a moment to pull together outfits that mimic the kind of shoot you want.

I am always happy to look at pictures and ideas before hand, in fact, I welcome them!  So please don't hesitate to ask for my assistance.  Another great resource is pinterest.com.

In these photos particularly, I love the look of the soft skirt blowing in the wind against the city backdrop, but also, how it contrasts with the more edgy, urban shots.  And the kids are decked out... From vans and vintage tee that are softened by a blazer, to the peekaboo shoulder dress with ghillies.    It all works and it shows!

The Eye of the Beholder.

You say parking garage door, I say cool geometric backdrop.  Its hard sometimes to see what we see on the other side of the camera.  And hey, sometimes, it doesn't work out, but most of the time we can find the beauty in even the most basic of places.  Here are a few examples of pictures taken in unexpected locations that make for some really neat photos.

Headshots with the founders of B-Wel

I was thrilled to have the opportunity to work with the ladies of B-Well on a very chilly Sunday in November.  B-Well is an organization focused bringing health and wellness events to the education sector.

Lisette and Renee met me in downtown Downers Grove, to snap a few headshots for their events and website.  We also popped into the Downers Grove Spenga, where they graciously let us utilize their space to come in from the cold.

Many thanks to both B-Well and Spenga.
