Its that time of year… Chicago winter, a particularly frigid and blustery one at that. What’s a photographer to do you say?
Well, what all photographers are doing right now… give a bunch of kids some glitter and let them go crazy.
Seems simple enough, but kids are never really given free reign to throw, feel and play with glitter; the ever spreading, self adhering, shiny virus that it is.
This experience leaves them all wanting to come back tomorrow, but not til next year kids or maybe never if I don’t have amnesia about the clean up required, HAHAHA. Only time will tell.

Lets see a show of “likes” (yes I mean click like on the post if you experience this)… How many of you out there have Facebook and Instagram feeds FULL of images of your kids, your kids happily playing on the swings at the park or walking into school for the first time or running down the soccer field or just being their goofy selves? How many of you have photos of your kids all over the house on display with pride? Now, how many of you have nary a photo of yourself, on Facebook, Instagram, or your walls? How many of you have pictures showing the love you have for your little ones while you embrace them and someone else is behind the camera like those shown here?
I bet you most of you are saying, well I’m the person taking the pic with my iPhone, unless i’m running around with a self stick all day, I have to be the one taking the pictures, right?
I’m here to tell you, get out from behind the camera and do a photo session with a photographer that can put you at ease to be yourself with your littles, a photographer that will capture images like these showing the love and fun that your family is experiencing. Get those pictures of running and playing with them, not running after them with the iPhone. These times are very brief… but pictures last a lifetime, don’t forget to take a day and do this for not only yourself but you kiddos. Something to look at and remember these fleeting moments.
Photo sessions aren’t always the easiest to plan, and maybe make some people feel a little uncomfortable, but with the right photographer, you will be at ease… photographers will help you plan your outfits, they will position you… All you need to do is bring the love and willingness to be yourself. I implore you to do this for yourself, so that you may have images like these to look back on and remember the fun you had with your little ones before you blink.

What better way to beat the cold than snuggling newborns!?! This Chicago winter has been cold, snowy and full of adorable little bundles! These three families all have new members, but are at very different stages in their lives. We have a first born, a new big sister, and 6 kids become 7... Check out a few of my favorites.
Fall weather can be a bit all over the place, especially this year! But have no fear, if your session is set for a day that might not be exactly optimal, we can turn lemons into lemonade... or chocolate into hot cocoa in this case.
We managed to get some amazing family photos, and then wrapped up with a warm cup of cocoa. Check out these amazing shots on a chilly evening in November.
September benefited from much better weather than we are seeing in October! I am thankful that I was able to get in so many wonderful sessions!! Check us out on Facebook... https://www.facebook.com/juliannegreenphotography/
Mini sessions are a great way to
1) snag a photographer that you love but might not be able to afford the full session for
2) get a shorter session, if you don't believe you need a full
3) takes the guess-work out... the photographer will have specific times and location, you just need to show up (on time) and ready to take pics.
Here are a few samples from recent mini sessions at Emerson Creek Pottery and Tea Room.
This family has the most intense blue eyes I have ever seen, and they have grown by a 1. I never get over spending time with a family in their home, while they are getting used to their new normal. Big brother was such a trooper as the crazy of a new baby has entered the home and even took time to read his new brother a book.
Making time for family photos, in particular extended family photos, can seem like a daunting task. Our lives get so busy. And as the kids grow old, go off to school, move away and start their own families it can seem even more so.
Then comes along one of those all too rare moments where everyone is in town at the same time... you jam as much in as possible that it doesn't seem another activity can fit... but let me suggest trying to sneak an extended family session. Its a great way to treasure those moments together, and it doesn't need to be the overwhelming commitment that it might seem.
This extended family came from 3 different states, one couple was leaving for the airport directly from the shoot and yet, they were able to get in a quick 1 hour shoot and be on their way. Now they have these precious images to remember the time together. Check it out!
You will here me say time and time again! Opt for the golden hour session. It can be difficult with bed times, I understand, but if you can swing it... its well worth it! Check out these beauties.
This beautiful momma to be, is just glowing! Growing another human can be downright difficult, painful and tiring... its nice to take a moment to appreciate how beautiful a mother to be is. Bringing another human into this world is, in my opinion, one of the most amazing things a person can do.
You say parking garage door, I say cool geometric backdrop. Its hard sometimes to see what we see on the other side of the camera. And hey, sometimes, it doesn't work out, but most of the time we can find the beauty in even the most basic of places. Here are a few examples of pictures taken in unexpected locations that make for some really neat photos.
I love how families an ever changing, living thing. One of the best parts of my job is helping tell your stories... you are the narrator, I get to be your pencil. As your families grow and evolve I love seeing how each chapter unfolds.
There is nothing much better than holding a 5 day old. As many of you know I have 4 year old twins, and its a distant memory, the cooing noises and snorts, the peach fuzz, the smells that are newborns, all seem so long ago. So I can't tell you enough how much enjoyment I get out of holding a newborn for a couple hours to both awe at how amazing life is, but also reminisce a little.
The times I spent with Family M has to be one of my favorite shoots of all time... just see for yourself. PS get ready to say awwwww, a lot! Enjoy.
This winter ceases to amaze me. December, which typically is pretty moderate, was full of snow and frigid days, little did I know, I would be shooting in February outside, enjoying the parks and playgrounds!
Needless to say, I have been kept on my toes to find locations that will accommodate this yoyo weather!
In December, I had the pleasure of shooting in the beautiful town of Long Grove, more specifically, the gracious owners of Scout and Forge, Matt and Meg, welcomed us in from the cold, to shoot in their stunning space. Scout and Forge is filled with the most unique compilation of antique and repurposed furniture. If you haven't been to Long Grove, I highly recommend a visit to this idyllic town, and be sure to stop in and say "Hi" to Matt and Meg! https://scoutandforge.com/shop
And just last week, I had planned to do a shoot indoors at greenhouse in Elmhurst, but February blessed me with sun and 50s?!?! we were able to take full advantage of the beautiful grounds.
Check out these two shoots, both winter, two very different settings. Thanks again to Matt & Meg. You guys are the best.
6 months is such a sweet spot! Your baby is filling out, sitting up (even if only for a few seconds at a time), smiles all the time and has those infection laughing spells. Ohhh how I love this age. If you waited on a newborn shoot and feel like its too late, I highly recommend considering a 6 month shoot... Its such a great age for a stress-free family session and is be sure to bring the smiles.
Check out this beautiful family enjoying time with their home with the newest addition! SWOON!
