When Costco gives you lemons! {Chicago Family Photographer} {Naperville Family Photographer

When Costco has HUGE bags of lemons for sale, you get two and come to my studio in downtown Downers Grove!  Well at least that is what this creative momma did!  We had so much fun playing around with the set up, and the little one had fun trying to eat them... check it out a few highlights from this lemon-tactic session!

These sweet sisters had some time to themselves in front of the camera before showing off some snuggles and funny moments :)

We took a quick break, cleaned up the lemons and snapped a few of these cuties on a nice clean backdrop... we had such a fun morning playing around!  Cant wait to see you guys this fall!  And hope to see you in the studio or on location soon too!!

Connecting - Downers Grove Photographer

I am just getting back from the Reset Conference where I spent 2 very full days connecting with other photographers, connecting with myself as a person, mom and photographer and connecting with my business.  This got me thinking about what inspires me, what drives me to pick up my camera time and time again, what images I'm drawn to... what do I love to see and feel.

So I decided to do a little exercise and went through a bunch my images.  Every image that really spoke to me, I put it in the folder.

Well... here they are.

Downers Grove Photographer

I really liked this exercise and so I kept going....

And going...

OK you get the point.  Aside from the obvious change in seasons, what do you see as the common thread in all of them?  What do they make you feel? Please I REALLY want to know... because 1) I genuinely want to know what you feel but 2) I'm curious if anyone is reading this, lol.

I will tell you what I see when people start responding.

New life!

What better way to start the new year than with a session honoring new life?!?  From baby toes to pouty lips this little one has it all!

BLACK FRIDAY SALE!!

BLACK FRIDAY IS HERE! Don't miss out on this great opportunity to book next years family photos and save! OR do you have a loved one that deserves the kind of gift that they will treasure for years and years?  This is the perfect gift for them!  It literally keeps on giving!

Perspective

Perspective can mean the difference between a tosser and an amazing composition.  The perspective on this particular shot creates a bit of an illusion... children that appear to be running up hill with the sky in the distance are actually running down hill to a lake.

All the pretty reds!

Warmth overload!  There is no such thing.  I can't get enough of this beautiful redhead... the fall oranges and the warmth of sunset.

Emerson Creek day 2!

September benefited from much better weather than we are seeing in October! I am thankful that I was able to get in so many wonderful sessions!!  Check us out on Facebook... https://www.facebook.com/juliannegreenphotography/

A "perfectly you" photo session.

Fall photos are well underway... and can sometimes seem like a daunting task with the little ones. But have no fear, I recently wrote an article for www.mykidlist.com about photoshoot preparedness and what you can do to create a "perfectly you" session that I think might help!

What do I mean by a "Perfectly You" session?  Every family is unique and not all kids cooperate or say cheese exactly the way you might hope, but if you embrace your family and kids as they are, and work with your photographer, you can capture amazing pictures that are completely unique to your family; perfectly you.  Check it out, whether I am your photographer or someone else, these tips should help.  PS this picture is a great example of a "perfectly you" shot!

When photographers go to dinner...

What happens when a bunch of photographers decide to go for dinner?  We stop and take pictures of each other before hand, of course!  Lucky to have such beautiful and talented friends, inside and out.

Mini Sessions

Mini sessions are a great way to

1) snag a photographer that you love but might not be able to afford the full session for

2) get a shorter session, if you don't believe you need a full

3) takes the guess-work out... the photographer will have specific times and location, you just need to show up (on time) and ready to take pics.

Here are a few samples from recent mini sessions at Emerson Creek Pottery and Tea Room.

Check to these "Baby" blues!

This family has the most intense blue eyes I have ever seen, and they have grown by a 1.  I never get over spending time with a family in their home, while they are getting used to their new normal. Big brother was such a trooper as the crazy of a new baby has entered the home and even took time to read his new brother a book.

Making Time

Making time for family photos, in particular extended family photos, can seem like a daunting task.  Our lives get so busy.  And as the kids grow old, go off to school, move away and start their own families it can seem even more so.

Then comes along one of those all too rare moments where everyone is in town at the same time... you jam as much in as possible that it doesn't seem another activity can fit... but let me suggest trying to sneak an extended family session.  Its a great way to treasure those moments together, and it doesn't need to be the overwhelming commitment that it might seem.

This extended family came from 3 different states, one couple was leaving for the airport directly from the shoot and yet, they were able to get in a quick 1 hour shoot and be on their way.  Now they have these precious images to remember the time together.  Check it out!

The gift that keeps on giving!

This session was a present to Mom!  As we near the holidays this is something you might consider for your own mother or grandmother.  It is truly the gift that keeps on giving.

Not only do you spend a morning together enjoying each others company and making mom/grandma oh so very happy, but you are creating new memories.  At the end of this special experience, you will take these moments with you forever, both figuratively and literally.

Check out a couple of my favorites from a recent "gift."

Sunset!

You will here me say time and time again!  Opt for the golden hour session.  It can be difficult with bed times, I understand, but if you can swing it... its well worth it!  Check out these beauties.

Late Summer Blooms

Spring and fall are often coveted times of the year to take your family photos, but do not overlook the august early September bloomers!  The purples, yellows and whites are abundant and make for stunning photos.

Cherished Heirlooms

I am in love with the jewel tones in this beautiful sari, which was worn at their firsts' baby shower, and woven through the children pictures!

Preparation

There is something to be said for the person who prepares... I can't emphasize this enough.   It is important to think about your photos prior to the shoot... coordinate the outfit, discuss it with me, so on the day of, we already have a sense for what the mood is.

We all get busy and sometimes its hard to prepare beforehand, but if you are investing in a session, I recommend investing a moment to pull together outfits that mimic the kind of shoot you want.

I am always happy to look at pictures and ideas before hand, in fact, I welcome them!  So please don't hesitate to ask for my assistance.  Another great resource is pinterest.com.

In these photos particularly, I love the look of the soft skirt blowing in the wind against the city backdrop, but also, how it contrasts with the more edgy, urban shots.  And the kids are decked out... From vans and vintage tee that are softened by a blazer, to the peekaboo shoulder dress with ghillies.    It all works and it shows!

So big!

The absolute best thing about working with families is seeing them grow.  I had the pleasure of taking pictures of this family when they were only three with 1 on the way; I held this baby girl as a newborn and had the great honor of taking some of her very first pictures in this world, and now she is a smily 6 month old, and oh so big!  It is such an honor to be a part of peoples lives.

The Eye of the Beholder.

You say parking garage door, I say cool geometric backdrop.  Its hard sometimes to see what we see on the other side of the camera.  And hey, sometimes, it doesn't work out, but most of the time we can find the beauty in even the most basic of places.  Here are a few examples of pictures taken in unexpected locations that make for some really neat photos.

Spring has sprung!

I can't not get enough of these kiddos.  I have the pleasure of taking pics of them a few times a year and every shoot gets better than the next.  AND BONUS, things are popping in the chicagoland area!  XOXO.
